Foodie Antics: Fish Fillet/Taco and Garlic Sauce

By 9:38 AM , ,

This is an easy recipe* for Cream Dory fish fillet. Although I love to eat it with steamed rice (I love to eat rice more now, because of the calories I need for breastfeeding!), hubby and I also love to eat it as a soft taco!

Like i said, this is an easy recipe, because I cook this often especially when I don't know what else to prepare for dinner! Besides, my baby can eat it too, because he can now eat flaked fish and chicken, so this is our favorite.

Though I usually cook "in bulk", for reasons stated in my first Foodie Antics post, the ingredients and prep/cooking time I'm going to share here are approximately for a serving of 2 persons.

Ingredients:

1 Cream Dory Fish Fillet (slightly thawed, chopped in strips - for easy cooking)
3-4 Calamansi
1 Large Egg
2 Ice cubes
1/4 cup cold water
1/3 cup All Purpose Flour
1/4 cup Corn starch
Panko Breadcrumbs
Salt and Pepper

Est. Prep time: 25 mins.
Est. Cooking time: 10-15 mins.

Instructions:
1. Preheat about 2 cups of cooking oil into a cooking pot/deep pan. It's important to get the oil really hot at the beginning so deep frying would be a breeze..you'll see.

2. Season the fish fillet strips with salt and pepper, and calamansi (yup, that's all!)

3. Make the batter (much like a tempura batter): Scramble the egg, mix in the flour, corn starch, water, and ice cubes. Season with salt and pepper.

Keeping the batter cold prevents it from absorbing too much oil and making the fish soggy, in other words, the secret to a crispy fish fillet!

4. Dip Fish in batter and then coat with Panko breadcrumbs and deep fry for 1-2mins, depending on how big or small you cut your fish strips. When cooked, remove from the oil and place in paper towels to remove excess oil.

Tada! Yummy, crispy fish fillet...serve with steamed rice or...

Turn it into a Soft Taco:
5. Just slightly heat tortillas into a nonstick pan or microwave (careful not too turn them crisp, or else it wouldn't be a soft taco now would it?).

6. Chop vegetables of your choice. I usually mix in lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, and onions...and add in a bit of extra virgin olive oil. And serve with a slice of lemon :)

You can do a lot of the sauce already so that
you can use it for other dishes like fried chicken
or steamed fish.
Garlic Sauce Recipe:
Of course, the garlic sauce would complete the recipe all together.

Just mix in all the ingredients below...

Ingredients:
3 Garlic cloves (finely minced) or Garlic powder
5 tbsp. Mayonaise
3 tbsp. Plain Yogurt
3 tbsp. Sour Cream
Salt and Pepper to taste

ENJOY! :)
