Family Antics: Kiel's Kindermusik Class

By 9:36 AM , ,

Kiel's Certificate :)
I'm happy that my first Family Antics post is about Kindermusik. I have been planning to write about it since we started classes but this would be the perfect time to talk about it since Kiel recently graduated on October 20, with the rest of his classmates.

What is Kindermusik?

Kindermusik is a music and movement program for parents and their kids, from as early as 0 months up to 7 years old. According to their site, "[Kindermusik] incorporates the most current research on early childhood development and provides families a special place for learning and connecting with other parents and babies through music and movement..."

"[Kindermusik is] passionately committed to bringing the highest standards of musical learning to children's lives through developmentally appropriate curricula, CDs, books, instruments, and activities for our licensed classes and for family time at home."
Why did I enroll my baby in a class like this?

When Kiel turned about 6 months, I noticed he was getting to the "nangingilala" stage, when he would cry and get all fussy and grumpy when other people approach him, even our relatives. I thought it was maybe because he was cooped up inside the house all day and so he wasn't used to people around much anymore. I wanted him to get to interact with other kids and babies more and so I asked our pedia first if baby classes would do the trick, and she said it was worth a try. Besides, it would also be a good bonding time for the whole family too.

I was choosing between Gymboree and Kindermusik at that time. While both had equally good feedback, more mommy friends recommended the latter. Also, when I emailed teacher Suzette if she was still accepting enrolees for her class, she said the timing was right because the first half of the semester is about to end, so if ever I want to enroll Kiel, we could start and complete 9 sessions of the next half of the semester for a prorated tuition fee. She also suggested that we attend a free trial class first so we'll know if the program was right for us.

How did the classes go?

After seeing Kiel showing fascination during our trial session, we decided to enroll him. We would look forward to Saturday mornings at 9am to sing and dance, and play with his little classmates and see teacher Suzette and Ate Dolor! Waking up early wasn't a problem, because the class is just over at Capitol Greenstreet which is relatively near our condo. How did the classes go? Well, let the pictures do the talking:

Who is Teacher Suzette?

She is the reason we love our Kindermusik classes.

You can see the kids really listen to her and she explains each activity to the parents and how it helps your child's development. Before we started out with her classes, I've also read about her in various mommy blogs (Manilamommy, MyMomFriday, TrulyRichMom), and how she treats Kindermusik as an advocacy:
"Being an advocacy, I believe that education and programs such as Kindermusik should be within the reach of parents from all social classes. This is why I started a scholarship program in 2007.  Once a child is a either a partial or full scholar, I make sure that he/she finishes the program until Young Child 4 where we teach the recorder already.  I became the first Filipina to receive the Ruth Anderson grant from the States, allowing Kindermusik International to recognize my outreach work.  When I see that an enrolled family has more than two children, I automatically offer a scholarship for the third child, no questions asked.  I want families to experience the program without the financial burden.  I believe that Kindermusik is so beautiful that every child should be given the opportunity to be a student." (source: Manilamommy)

  1. Hi! It's so nice to read about how families are enjoying their Kindermusik classes. :) I enrolled my first child when she was 10 months old, and my second child when he was 4 months old! Children are really musical and learn a lot through music and movement activities! I teach Young Child (ages 5 to 7) under Teacher Suzette's program btw, and I've also written about how we love Kindermusik. :) http://www.thelearningbasket.com/search/label/Kindermusik#axzz2BA9HoUUv
